About this location
Circus Disco was the longest-running LGBT Latino nightclub in Los Angeles. Circus was notable both for its clown themed decor and its racially diverse and trans-inclusive environment. In 1983 the club hosted César Chávez who helped members of the Project Just Business gay and lesbian coalition strategize around boycotts and fundraising. Marna Deitch remembers hosting a fundraiser there with a friend for the lesbian social service center Connexxus/Centro de Mujeres, where they played a mixtape of women’s music videos from MTV.
