About this location
The June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives began in 1981 as the West Coast Lesbian Collections, founded in Oakland by Lynn Fonfa and Cherríe Cox. The archive was relocated to Southern California in 1985 by June L. Mazer and her partner Nancy “Bunny” MacCulloch, who safeguarded the growing collection in their home. After June’s death in 1987, the Archives were renamed in her honor and, in 1989, moved to the Werle Building in West Hollywood. For more than four decades, the Mazer has been sustained by dedicated volunteers committed to preserving and sharing lesbian, feminist, and queer women’s histories with future generations. The archives hold extensive collections of personal papers, photographs, periodicals, audiovisual materials, and ephemera.
