About this location
Los Angeles held its first gay pride parade on Hollywood Boulevard in 1970 to commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. The event came to be organized annually by Christopher Street West (CSW), and in 1979 the parade moved to Santa Monica Boulevard in the unincorporated area that became the City of West Hollywood in 1984. LA Pride returned to Hollywood in 2022, and the City of West Hollywood launched WeHo Pride that same year. Lesbians in the Mazer community remember gathering in front of The Palms during the parade. Jeannette Bronson volunteered at Pride for about a decade beginning in 1984. Photographer Angela Brinskele began photographing Pride after first attending in 1986, since marchers were willing to be photographed when many lesbians were not.
