About this location
The Normandie Room opened on October 28, 1993 and soon gained a reputation as a lesbian-centric bar. Its straight owner, Jason Shokrian, meant it to treat everyone equally, but women began gravitating there organically because they were not welcomed at many of the gay male bars on Santa Monica Boulevard. The bar was artistic and cozy. It closed in 2009, one of many businesses hurt by the long construction on Santa Monica Boulevard and the 2008 recession.
